From the Journal of Aalnyar Korianthil
Betrayal in the Abyss
Written by Aalnyar, added 20 July 2010 @ 17:38

Entry in Timeline: 1375 DR

It has been decided, we need to obtain the phylactery of the Balnorn to stop the Demon and hopefully shorten or even end this war. Several from the Alliance and friends of the Alliance will go to the abyssal plane of Pazuzu, raid the iron fortress there and with luck come back with the item we seek.

Lady Jaz will open a portal for us and accompany us on this trip to allow us to have a better chance of returning. I do not necessarily trust her but we do not have many mages of her level of knowledge to get us close enough to the fortress.

We all gather and soon a shining portal opens and takes us to a blood red sand of a desert the air is dry and the sun beats down on us, those not protected from heat begin to take wounds due to the temperature, one we help those with the heat problem we look about to get our bearings.

Then we see it, off in the distance a fortress whose size we can only guess at and as we approach closer we soon get some idea of its massive scale. Hundreds of feet high and of a width we can only guess at.

We stay near some rock outcropping to hide our selves so we can view a way in easier; we soon see that even though the fortress is ancient there is a pert near the top that looks newer than the rest in better condition.

Flying about the fortress are hundreds of Vrocks, but they seem less inclined to fly about the newer part of the fortress. We soon decide that this will be our entry, and dimension door our selves to within the cover of the new walls.

As we try to figure out how to enter a group of babel demons see some of our group and swarm forward to attack not realizing our true numbers. We soon make short work of them and some grin knowing that this death is permanent; Alabyran seeing no other way in decides to use some gnomish timed explosives to gain entry.

As soon as the smoke clears, demons are swarming out of the opening and we are soon deeply into combat. Alabyran falls under the onslaught of several Babel and Vrock demons, but is soon rescued by Aalnyar and Mikel and is soon brought back by the aid of a scroll of resurrection.

We soon are going through endless corridors we go lower and lower into the dark fortress; we soon come across a group of prisoners and they begin to follow us as we go deeper not wanting to wait to see if our group comes back for them or not.

In one corridor Alabyran and Mikel are trapped in a cage that dropped from the ceiling and are soon attacked by demonic flesh golems and a Balor demon they soon fall and Shin shatters her hand trying to break the barrier down. The balor soon shatters the cage to get to us and we soon slay it.
Through many traps and demons we reach the level the skull headed demon with our prize is supposed to be located, we soon are in a pitched battle, spells and blades striking the demon and he is soon down but there is no Phylactery on him. Soon we hear the sound of clapping and turn to see a beautiful elven warrior approach us, but as he gets closer we soon see clawed hands and feet and bat like wings protruding from his back.

You have done better than we thought you would do, smiling he approaches us and introduces him self as Aramilar a fallen champion of Corellon. He soon ask us if this is what we seek, holding Malikesh’s phylactery in his clawed grasp.

He soon talks of how the wing of Pazuz has betrayed his master and the reason why he has not attacked the Alliance and other forces in the ruins of Myth Drannor and how he was making a bid for power to over throw his Lord Pazuzu and how this would not be tolerated.

He soon tosses the phylactery to Lady Jaz and asks us if we would like a portal back to our realm which is declined, he soon leaves telling us we better go before the main forces of the fortress locate us and obliterate us.

We soon use our magic’s to create a portal out of there and to an area we can get to the prime material plane and go to see Malikesh. We soon arrive and are greeted in a gruff manner by the Balnorn and how he said this was not as our agreement was.

We apologies for our manner of entrance but that we have his phylactery, he soon demands it and to our astonishment Lady Jaz refuses to comply stating she was not pleased by his greeting and had no problem waiting to give him his phylactery.

We soon break out in argument and threaten her to give it back, getting ready to draw my blade to stop this mad woman I am stopped by the cold grip of the Balnorn saying you all will stay here and I will not remove the link the demon has to the mythal till my phylactery is returned.

He soon begins to paint again ignoring us, soon more cajoling from Alabyran to lady Jaz but still she will not part with it. Soon Malikesh stops painting and ask us to leave so he can finish.

We are undone by this woman’s arrogance and all will suffer because of it. I am soon in the City of Song with the taste of ash in my mouth for what I must tell Lord Durothil, He listens to my report and stops and stares off into the distance saying how that woman can be so foolish. I finish my report on why the demon lord has not attacked, after a few moments Lord Durothil calls for withdraw of Alliance forces from the city of song.

Soldiers soon leave with looks of despair on how so many had given their lives to even capture what the alliance had so far gained. Soon the troops are gone and the Leader of the Order of the Sword and me take down the banners of the alliance, and soon there is nothing but silence and dust where the fighters of freedom once stood.
